The Challenges

Hotel Cecil’s diverse event schedule presented significant challenges in maintaining a consistent and functional Front of House (FOH) setup. The audio system needed to be versatile enough to accommodate the varying requirements of touring bands, one-off shows, and nightclub events. Ensuring cohesive sound quality across these different formats was paramount to the system upgrade.

The Solution

Hotel Cecil worked with Matrix Sales to find a solution to the challenges faced. Claus Pedersen from Matrix Sales led the integration design, collaborating closely with Mikael Flensborg, with their expertise being crucial in designing and implementing a solution that met the venue’s high standards and diverse needs. Hotel Cecil decided it was time for a new mixer and the HD96 console was chosen for its stability and superior preamps, crucial for meeting the venue’s high audio standards. The DL251 and DL155 stage boxes provided reliable I/O on stage, significantly reducing the need for extensive processing compared to the previous setup. The intuitive POP groups on the HD96 console further simplified the overall workflow, and alleviated initial concerns about transitioning to a new design.

Operation and Integrator Feedback

Despite initial worries about adjusting to a new workflow, operators quickly found the HD96 console easy to use. The console’s flexibility has allowed the team engineers to experiment with different mixing techniques, whilst consistently achieving excellent sound quality. The integration of a multipurpose start master-show file streamlined operations and saved set-up time. Furthermore, several touring acts have even preferred starting from scratch on Hotel Cecil’s desk, highlighting its user-friendly interface and broad appeal. Overall, the integration of Music Tribe products has greatly enhanced the venue’s audio capabilities, offering endless possibilities for delivering exceptional sound experiences across a wide range of events.

System Configuration

The HD96 console was installed at the front of house (FOH) with dual CAT5A connections to the stage via the AS80 for redundancy. From the AS80, a single Cat6 connection led to the DN9680, which then connected to two stage boxes using three CAT5A cables.
