The Midas XL4 is the analogue console that wrote the playbook for modern live mixing. Forty-eight channels, 45 buses, an 18 x 8 matrix, eight mute buses, and ten motorised VCA faders with up to 2000 automation scene memories — the first analogue desk to bring scene recall, moving faders and digital-domain routing to a pure analogue signal path. The XL4 was, and remains, the reference.
A newly designed mic preamp built on the XL3 circuit topology — increased gain range, lower distortion. The treble and bass EQ sections received extended frequency ranges and switch to fully parametric operation. The result is the signal path that headlined arenas, theatres and broadcast events for two decades.
Forty-eight channels (48 mic/line + 16 effect returns = 64 input channels), 45 outputs, an 18 x 8 matrix, eight mute buses, and an eight-channel mastering section. Ten motorised VCA faders automate scene-by-scene — recall every cue, every snapshot, every show element. Up to 2000 automation scenes per project.
This product is obsolete. Original XL4 units remain in active touring service and major rental inventories — still requested by name on world-tour riders. Reference current Midas digital flagships for the modern successor lineage.
