Q: What is COBALT?
A: COBALT is a revolutionary, high-channel count, pocket-sized USB3 audio protocol converter that redefines convenience and versatility in the realm of live audio recording.
Q: What are the key features of COBALT?
A: It is more than just a USB converter – it is a game-changing solution that combines power, portability, despite its compact size it provides an unparalleled recording experience, users can record and virtual soundcheck up to 192 channels all through a single Neutrik™ locking USB C connection, direct into PC or Mac. The built-in Sample Rate Converters further elevate COBALT’s capabilities, enabling operation at either 48 kHz or 96 kHz without compromising the channel count. With its built-in Ethernet tunnel, COBALT allows direct communication to a variety of audio applications such as Reaper™ via protocols such at OSC, expanding its compatibility with different ecosystems for the diverse demands of modern audio production.
Q: What are the specifications of COBALT?
A: The best thing about COBALT is you get all that power, but in a pocket-sized form! Currently COBALT is clocking in at around: 127mm x 84mm x 46mm and under 500g. This is subject to change but is unlikely to change dramatically!
Q: How does COBALT fit into the Midas eco-system?
A: There is no other product on the market that compares to COBALT. It allows users to record and virtual soundcheck up to 192 channels of audio at 96 kHz and with the built-in Sample Rate Converters enables operation at 48 kHz if required, without any compromises. Its footprint is also so small that it takes up very little space and it doesn’t require any additional hardware to operate – it’s practically plug and play – making COBALT the perfect set-up addition for touring engineers.
Q: What is the cost of COBALT?
A: As with the HD96-AIR, the final Bill of Materials has not yet been calculated and therefore, a final price cannot be provided at this time. We hope to provide a more accurate cost soon, but we can say that COBALT will sit within a very affordable price range.
Q: When can we expect to be able to buy COBALT?
A: COBALT is almost complete regarding the tooling stage and then requires final production testing. We’re hoping to be able to release it to the market in Q1 of 2025.
