Midas PRO6 Shines with David Crowder Band
In September 2006, Westover Church in Greensboro, NC installed an award-winning sound system that put them at the forefront of a new generation of high-tech houses of worship. The system comprises an extensive “input to output” equipment list from Bosch, Electro-Voice, Midas, Klark Teknik, and Telex, and was designed and installed to both create an unrivaled worship experience and support the rider specs of even the most demanding touring artists. At the heart of the system is a Midas XL8 digital live performance system – the first XL8 installed in the United States.
For a recent performance by national Christian artists the David Crowder Band, Westover’s AV team worked with regional Midas reps EDA Pro Group to bring in a new PRO6 console from Midas to provide a monitor mix to match the front-of-house mix provided by the Westover’s XL8. The consoles were operated by Westover’s Danny Slaughter (XL8) and Jeff Neubauer (PRO6). The band was so impressed with the overall sound quality that they have spec’d the PRO6 on their technical rider. Rob Albert, the band’s Production Manager, explains:
“Though I’m a PM rather than an audio crew member, I know my way around a mixing console, and, most importantly, I know what sounds good—our reputation as a touring band relies on audio clarity and quality. On the road you quickly become familiar with the relative ease-of-use or difficulty of different consoles from night-to-night, and the interface with the PRO6 is so much easier than anything I’ve experienced in the digital realm over the past few years. The layout and controls are both innovative and intuitive, and it sounds more like an analog desk than any other digital console I’ve heard. And I know the guys in the band experienced the same warmth and clarity in their in-ear monitor mixes as I was hearing in the house mix; crisp, clean, exceptional mixes. A total difference in what we typically experience—the PRO6 is a cut above all around. Westover has equipped their facility and staff with the resources to produce quality production for traveling acts. The house guys at Westover did an incredible job.”
