Adelaide welcomes the first Midas PRO6 Live Audio System sold in Australia to Osmond Electronics

Adelaide welcomes the first Midas PRO6 Live Audio System sold in Australia to Osmond Electronics. This follows a tradition of firsts for Osmond, during the nineties they bought the first XL3 and XL200 in Australia.

The PRO6 continues to reinforce the claim, established by the flagship XL8 system, by some engineers that Midas digital sounds better than Midas analogue. The PRO6 is compatible with the XL8 and can share both show files and hardware. The Osmond's PRO6 is being supplied with the DL431 Input Splitter commonly seen with the XL8, which allows a total of five output splits from a single input with dual variable gain pre-amps providing both digital and analogue splits, with an additional transformer isolated analogue output as the fifth split. The system was specified with the DL451 I/O box that provides remote inputs and outputs for the system in addition to the DL451 I/O cards fitted into the PRO6 surface. Each DL451 box and the PRO6 surface contain three module slots that allow input and output modules to be changed and moved around within the system.

The system as shipped provides the following facilities;

48 x inputs with dual pre-amp control and five way split
8 x inputs without split
8 x AES/EBU digital inputs and outputs
24 x outputs on XLR
8 x inputs on 6.5 TRS
8 x outputs on 6.5 TRS

Allowing for a total of 80 mixes on the surface at one time with 32 mix buss outputs plus left, centre, right.

The system comes with two 100m Cat-5e cables on drums that provide an active plus redundant multi-core system with the ability of feeding 192 channels bi-directionally.

The system has the ability of accessing 8 full function stereo effects devices and up to 36 Klark Teknik DN370 equaliser channels. In addition each input channel has the option of four different compressor modes as well as a gate. The input equaliser section also allows for the ability to change the EQ mode to replicate classic Midas EQs. On top of that each output in the console has a six band parametric EQ across it, as well as five different compressor options. The surface is equipped with two daylight viewable screens and the ability to separate the right hand 4 channels of the console as an independent Area 'B'.

The one aspect that has attracted a lot of acclaim is the use of POP (population) groups as a means of navigating the system. POP groups provide the ability to bring the mix channels to the engineer quickly with all functions relating to the channel appearing on the surface.

Already the PRO6 has generated a great deal of interest around the world for its flexibility, feature set and sonic performance. The Osmond PRO6 will join an existing inventory of Midas analogue including XL200, XL3, Heritage 3000, Venice and Verona consoles as well as large collection of Klark Teknik outboard.
