IRISH RENTAL COMPANIES CONFIRM MIDAS PRO6 ORDERS

Midas is delighted to announce huge demand for its new PRO6 Live Audio System, the company’s second networked digital audio system, which employs technologies developed from the groundbreaking XL8 in a compact package.

Among the first clients to place orders for the PRO6 are Irish rental companies MG Audio and Murt Whelan Sound and Lighting, who have each purchased a PRO6 system from local distributor Sound Communications. The companies are located on the east and southwest of the country respectively, and work closely together on a number of festivals and larger events. Both companies feel their PRO6 purchases will further enhance this arrangement.

Whelan’s console inventory is exclusively Midas, offering Veronas, Sienas and Venices for rental. “I’ve been a Midas user for eight years and have been looking at upgrading to a higher spec console for some time, so it seemed a seamless transition to look to Midas again,” he explains. “I heard at the end of last year that Midas was bringing out a smaller version of the XL8 so I placed a provisional order back in January for the PRO6. I demoed an XL8 this summer to some of my key clients who had used other brands of digital consoles and they were all delighted with the audio quality, which confirmed to me that I was making the correct decision. When I saw the compact size and user friendliness of the PRO6 for the first time it further confirmed my decision.”

Darran McGoldrick from MG Audio placed his order during PLASA 08. Another long time Midas user, McGoldrick owns Legends, Venices and Sienas and is convinced Midas is the only choice for pro users. “With the advent of digital technology in the mixing console market the flexibility it offers can all too often outweigh the end result: the sound quality,” he says. “This becomes more apparent when touring internationally and doing one-off gigs of 50 or 60 channels when time and schedules rather than the preference of the engineer determine the choice of console. So when the long-awaited phrase, ‘Digital goes Midas’ came my way, it was the logical step to finally combine both user choice and excellent sound quality.”

Whelan’s first major job for the PRO6 will be a Christmas tour of Ireland with Sharon Shannon and her big band, with special guests Shane McGowan and Mundy. “In the lead up to Christmas I also expect to use it on a lot of corporate work including awards shows and balls, as well as one-off concerts and some larger theatre show,” he says. Meanwhile McGoldrick will be using his PRO6 for Liam Lawton’s tour of Ireland and the UK during November and December, handling both FOH and monitor duties.
