FOUR XL8S HEADLINE FRENCH FESTIVAL

The Francofolies festival which has taken place every year since 1985 in La Rochelle, France, has given numerous sound engineers the opportunity to discover and test the Midas XL8 Live Performance System, with four XL8s being used across the event.

The festival organisers chose Fa Musique, first XL8 owner in France, to provide sound reinforcement systems for both stages. Richard Ferriday (Midas Brand Development Manager) made the journey to La Rochelle to assist the French team and provide technical support.

Two XL8s for FOH and monitors were set up for the main stage and a further system was used for the Grand Théâtre stage where Jean Marandet from EVI Audio France handled technical support. The fourth system was installed in a backstage hospitality suite where visiting engineers could familiarise themselves with the control centre and record their settings before their respective concerts.

The XL8 system used for the main stage comprised six Midas DL431 mic splitters, which fed a total of five consoles, comprising the two XL8s (FOH and monitors), a Heritage 2000 (FOH) and Heritage 3000 (monitors). The fifth console was in the mobile recording facility of Radio France Inter. Operators of all five consoles were impressed with the flexibility and quality of the XL8’s networking capability, demonstrating that Midas is still setting industry standards.

Midas was certainly everywhere to be seen as a Heritage 3000 and a Heritage 2000 were also available on the main stage for sound engineers who preferred to use analogue consoles. Further Heritage, XL4 and Verona consoles belonging to some of the performers were also in attendance.
