IRELAND’S NATIONAL BROADCASTER RTE INVESTS IN MIDAS XL8
Midas’ Irish distributor Sound Communications is pleased to confirm that Ireland’s national broadcaster RTE (Radio Telefis Eireann) has invested in an XL8 live performance system, which was delivered and commissioned in late August 2006.
RTE has purchased its XL8 for use on the longest-running talk show on air – The Late Late Show, a live two hour show which mixes debate and guest interviews with eclectic musical performances, sometimes featuring four or five artists per show.
“RTE contacted me last October about buying an XL4,” explains Alan Murphy from Sound Communications. “However after hearing their specific requirements and also knowing what Midas had in the pipeline, I felt the show - a national institution here - deserved the very best, and that XL8 perfectly suited its needs for a multitude of musical styles and input requirement, all in real time, most with minimal rehearsal.
“It was the XL8’s incredible usability and intuitive control surface, rock solid operating system and the unique Midas brand values of quality, performance and reliability that made me feel confident I was offering an excellent solution to my client. I believe this is the simplest control surface of ANY type of console I’ve ever seen - even though the technology at work under the bonnet is off the radar. To paraphrase Joey Ramone, ‘This is stupid music played by clever people!’.”
Adds Ian Pike, senior sound supervisor at RTE, “With The Late Late Show and our other music format shows we strive to deliver the highest possible experience for the artist, the studio audience and ultimately the television audience. When we can get the best performance from an artist and reaction from a studio audience - that connection between the two – great television is made. Through the excellent sound quality of XL8, together with its accurate and total recall capabilities and a creative control surface for our staff engineers to work on, this new system will ensure we can maintain and develop our TV output with our core value of high quality TV central to all productions.”
